Hello everybody, it’s John, welcome to our recipe page. Today, we’re going to make a distinctive dish, auntie's steamed zebra cake. One of my favorites. This time, I’m gonna make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Auntie's steamed zebra cake is one of the most favored of current trending foods on earth. It’s easy, it is quick, it tastes delicious. It’s appreciated by millions every day. Auntie's steamed zebra cake is something that I’ve loved my whole life. They are fine and they look wonderful.

It's called Mah Lai Goh, a Malaysian version of steamed cake; it's simple and delicious, I like it especially because it's not too sweet and it's easy to make. A quick entry. cant stay long cos i am off to run some errands. made this steamed cake last night for my Nyai and honestly i cant comment anything abt this cake cos i didnt even hv a slice. Reduce the mixer speed to low and add in the sugar in three lots. I was so fascinated by this Zebra Cake that I wanted to give it a try.

To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few components. You can have auntie's steamed zebra cake using 7 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Auntie's steamed zebra cake:
  1. Get 5 eggs
  2. Get 200 g self-rising flour
  3. Make ready 150 g sugar
  4. Prepare 150 ml coconut milk
  5. Make ready 1 tsp vanilla essence
  6. Prepare 1/2 salt
  7. Make ready 2 tbsp cocoa powder

The cake was steamed, hmmm, wonder how come it was dry. The egg and sugar has to be beaten over high speed, until very fluffy, the colour will turn to pale yellow, close to white. When it comes to beat the mixture of egg and sugar, don't look at the clock. My toddlers love steamed cake and I have some milk that is going to expire in few days time, so thinking of steamed milk cake for my kids.

Steps to make Auntie's steamed zebra cake:
  1. Put eggs, vanilla essence, salt and sugar in a mixing bowl, mix all ingredients using an electric mixer for 2 minutes, until all combined and form soft bubbles.
  2. Add in coconut milk and keep mixing.
  3. Add in flour slowly (batch by batch) whilst keep mixing the batter using electric mixer, until all well combined.
  4. Part the batter into two bowls (I am using 2 measuring jugs).
  5. Add in the cocoa powder in one of the jug (or bowl) and mixed well. I shifted the chocolate powder before adding to mixing bowl, so it's easier to blend with the batter. By now you will have 2 batter chocolate and white.
  6. Using medium size baking tray (16x22cm) lightly buttered and dusted with flour already. Add in the batter from the middle of the mold/baking tray (alternating between white batter and chocolate batter). If you doing it correctly your batter will look like a bullseye shooting target.
  7. Prepare the steamer (I am using a wok), wrap the lid of the steamer with tea towel to prevent water dropping to the cake.
  8. Wait until water is bubbling, put the cake tray/mold to the steamer, cover and cook for 30 mins. Cook on high heat if using steamer, cook on medium heat if using a wok like me, as the cake tray placed directly to the water when using a wok (you don't want to use high heat with this method as water might go into the cake).
  9. Do a test with a skewer. If stick come out clean, your cake is ready to be served. Make sure you put enough water in the steamer, your cake will be a fail if water runs out in the middle of steaming (assumed you didn't realise, it happened to me once). Keeping a consistent heat and steam is the key of success for this cake.
  10. Served your steam zebra cake warm with hot drinks. I am drinking my new favourite tea (chai masala tea). Recipe is here: https://cookpad.com/uk/recipes/12868381-masala-chai-tea?invite_token=2nY8nY99KkTVrcYVHchPv9TB&shared_at=1592369002
