  1. Sift the flour, salt and garam masala powder into a bowl.

  4. Lightly grease two baking sheets with butter.
  5. On a floured work surface, roll out the dough to a 5 mm. (¼ inch) thick and 15 x 17 cm. (6 x 6.7 inch) rectangle.
  6. Cut into 15 x 1 cm. (6 x ½ inch) strips. Twist the strips slightly along it's length and place on the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Brush the straws with the remaining egg and sprinkle half with poppy seeds and half with cumin seeds.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven, 200ºC / 400ºF, for 10 – 15 minutes, or until golden.
  9. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
